According to Live Strong, our body is made up of 60% water. Since many of you spend most days working out and exercising, it’s important to avoid dehydration. Your body is constantly losing water from your body, especially when you sweat so it’s important to replace the water your body is excreting.
According to Health Line, it is recommended to drink eight 8-ounce glasses, which equals 2 liters, or a half gallon. You should make time to drink water continuously throughout the day, instead of drinking it in one seating to prevent bloating and overconsumption. Now, I’m not going to lie and say that I drink a half gallon of water a day, because I don’t. I know that many of you may find it difficult to drink throughout the day, and sometimes forget that it’s an important part of your day for health purposes. I have come up with a couple ideas to help you stay hydrated and remind you to drink.
- Buy a reusable water bottle – Aside from loving fitness, I also love being environmentally conscious of using reusable bottles instead of carrying around 8 plastic bottles. Keeping a reusable water bottle on your desk or in your bag, will remind you to refill it after you have finished it. You can also add lemon into your water bottle which helps stimulate weight loss, promotes digestion and increases the metabolic rate.
- Set a Phone Reminder – Space out eight alarms on your phone evenly throughout your day, to remind yourself to drink water. If you space it out evenly, you should be ready and thirsty by the time your next alarm goes off. I know most of us make mental notes, but when the day gets crazy sometimes we need to rely on our phone reminders to help us out.
- Whiteboard/Sticky Note – Depending on where you work, I recommend writing “drink water” on a whiteboard or sticky note that is placed in front of you. Even though we sometimes become so invested with our work, every time you look up or take a break you will see “drink water” in front of you on your whiteboard or sticky note. If you don’t have an office, leaving notes around your bedroom or refrigerator can also help remind you to drink water.
